There are 51 countries with 912 cities that have developed Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans. Although most are entitled Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (or SUMPs), many in the English-speaking world do not use the acronym "SUMP" as the word "sump" refers to a pit or hollow in which liquid collects, especially one in the floor of a mine or basement. Not exactly an attractive word to use. These countries therefore use terms such as "Sustainable Transport Plans" or simply "Urban Mobility Plans" and they tend not to use the EU Guidelines. These plans nevertheless do address mobility issues, do involve consultation and do develop sustainable solutions.
