Canada is a parliamentary liberal democracy and a constitutional monarchy in the Westminster tradition. It is a federation composed of 10 federated states, called provinces, and three federal territories. It encompasses 9,984,670 km2 (3,855,100 sq mi) of territory and has an estimated 2021 population of 37 million people. More than 80 per cent of Canadians live in urban centres and their surrounding suburbs.
